{"id":4,"date":"2013-03-18T01:08:24","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T00:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gotlandgameconference.com\/2013\/?page_id=4"},"modified":"2026-04-26T15:51:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T13:51:27","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gotlandgameconference.com\/2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gotlandgameconference.com\/2013\/last-year\/\" title=\"Click to check out more photos from GGC 2012\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/2013\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012slideshow\/day3_28.jpg\" alt=\"Young girl playing Clapper on the GGC 2012 Show Floor\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to ignore issues within the games industry and its culture, but ever since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/blogs\/arthur-ign\/2011\/02\/03\/on-dickwolves-ethics-and-why-im-not-attending-pax-east\">Dickwolves<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/kotaku.com\/5963528\/heres-a-devastating-account-of-the-crap-women-in-the-games-business-have-to-deal-with-in-2012\">#1ReasonWhy<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/tedxwomen.org\/speakers\/anita-sarkeesian-2\/\">harassment of Anita Sarkeesian<\/a> and Clarrisse Thorn&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/clarissethorn.com\/blog\/2012\/10\/16\/violation-rape-in-gaming-is-out-now\/\">foray into gaming culture<\/a> this has been <em>much<\/em> harder to do.<\/p>\n<p>We &#8216;other&#8217; people who make us uncomfortable, making them the problem, rather than looking at <em>our<\/em> issues. As the future of the industry, we felt the need to have a discussion on inclusion &#8211; of gender, of race, of sexuality, of disability &#8211; of every conceivable <em>Other<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There are many patterns of exclusion in the games industry, our field of study, our culture, and our virtual worlds. We&#8217;re all part of the problem.
